Privacy Policy
Finesse is a personal-finance app that links to your bank accounts and helps you understand your spending. Because we work with your financial data, your privacy is the whole point. This policy explains what we collect, why, who we share it with, and the control you have over it. We do not sell your personal information, and we run no third-party advertising or tracking.

01Who we are
Finesse ("Finesse," "we," "us," or "our") is a personal-finance application operated by Arush Kukreja, an individual based in Virginia, United States. For the purposes of applicable data-protection laws, Arush Kukreja is the data controller responsible for your personal information processed through the Finesse app and website.
This Privacy Policy applies to the Finesse iOS application, the Finesse website (including this waitlist site), and any related services that link to it (together, the "Service").
02Information we collect
a. Information you provide to us
- Account details. When you create an account, we collect your email address and a securely hashed password, or, if you use Sign in with Apple, the identifier and name/email Apple shares with us (which may be an Apple private-relay email if you choose to hide your address).
- Waitlist sign-ups. If you join our waitlist, we collect the email address you submit.
- Support communications. If you contact us, we keep the messages and contact details you send.
b. Financial information (via Plaid)
When you connect a financial institution, our data provider Plaid retrieves account and transaction data on your behalf and shares it with us. This may include:
- Account information — institution name, account names, account type (checking, savings, credit, etc.), masked account numbers, and current/available balances;
- Transaction information — amount, date, authorized date, description, merchant name, category, payment channel, and pending status;
- Recurring-transaction streams — detected subscriptions and recurring charges, including estimated cadence and next-charge dates.
c. Subscription & purchase information
If you subscribe to a paid plan, the purchase is processed by Apple through in-app purchase. Apple handles your payment method; we do not receive your card or bank-card details. We receive your subscription status (active, expired, trial, etc.) so we can unlock paid features.
d. Information collected automatically
- Device & app data — device model, operating-system version, app version, language/region, and similar technical details;
- Push notification token — if you enable notifications, the Apple Push Notification token needed to deliver alerts to your device;
- Diagnostics & usage — crash logs, error reports, and limited usage events used to keep the app stable and improve it.
Biometric unlock. If you enable Face ID or Touch ID to lock the app, the authentication happens entirely on your device through Apple's system. Finesse never receives or stores your biometric data.
03Bank data & Plaid
Finesse uses Plaid Inc. ("Plaid") to securely connect to your bank accounts. By linking an account, you authorize Plaid to access and transmit your financial data to Finesse in accordance with Plaid's own End User Privacy Policy. Plaid's handling of your information is governed by its policy, and we encourage you to review it. You can manage or revoke the connections you've shared through Plaid at my.plaid.com, and you can disconnect any institution from within the Finesse app at any time.
04How we use your information
We use the information described above to:
- Provide the core Service — sync and display your accounts, balances, and transactions;
- Generate budgets and personalized budget suggestions based on your actual spending history;
- Detect spending anomalies and produce severity-tagged alerts and positive-reinforcement insights;
- Identify recurring charges and subscriptions and estimate their annual cost and next charge date;
- Calculate forecasts, safe-to-spend figures, and category breakdowns;
- Send push notifications and other communications you've enabled;
- Authenticate you, operate paid subscriptions, and provide customer support;
- Maintain security, prevent fraud and abuse, and debug and improve the Service;
- Comply with legal obligations and enforce our Terms of Service.
05AI-generated insights
Some of Finesse's insights, alerts, and explanatory text are generated with the assistance of third-party artificial-intelligence providers. To produce these, we send a limited set of spending-derived data (for example, transaction amounts, merchant or category labels, and computed totals) to those providers' models and receive generated text in return.
- We send only the data needed to generate the insight, and we minimize what is shared wherever possible;
- Our AI processing is performed under enterprise terms that prohibit using your data to train the providers' models and that provide for zero or limited data retention;
- The number of AI-assisted operations is rate-limited per user;
- AI-generated content is informational only and may occasionally be inaccurate or incomplete — see our Terms of Service.
06How we share information
We share personal information only in the following circumstances:
- Service providers / processors who operate the Service on our behalf, including: Plaid (bank connectivity), our cloud database and hosting providers, our AI providers (as described above), Apple (authentication, push delivery, and in-app purchases), and our website/serverless host;
- Legal & safety — when required by law, subpoena, or legal process, or to protect the rights, property, or safety of Finesse, our users, or the public;
- Business transfers — in connection with a merger, acquisition, financing, or sale of assets, in which case we will notify you and any successor will be bound by this policy;
- With your direction or consent — when you ask us to share information with a third party.
These providers are permitted to use your information only to perform services for us and are bound by confidentiality and data-protection obligations.
07We don't sell your data
We do not sell your personal information, and we do not share it for cross-context behavioral advertising. Finesse runs no advertising networks and embeds no third-party ad or marketing trackers in the app. We do not use your financial data to market third-party products to you.
08Data retention
We keep your personal information for as long as your account is active and as needed to provide the Service. When you delete your account, we delete or de-identify your personal data — including your linked financial data — within a commercially reasonable period, except where we are required to retain certain records to comply with legal, tax, accounting, or fraud-prevention obligations, or to resolve disputes and enforce our agreements. Aggregated or de-identified data that cannot reasonably be linked to you may be retained.
09Your rights & choices
Depending on where you live, you may have some or all of the following rights regarding your personal information:
- Access — request a copy of the personal information we hold about you;
- Correction — ask us to correct inaccurate information;
- Deletion — ask us to delete your information (see Section 10);
- Portability — request your data in a portable format, where applicable;
- Withdraw consent — disconnect a linked bank, disable notifications, or close your account at any time;
- Non-discrimination — we will not deny you service for exercising these rights.
To exercise any of these rights, email us at support@finessefinance.us. We may need to verify your identity before acting on a request. Residents of California, the EU/UK, and other regions may have additional rights under laws such as the CCPA/CPRA and GDPR; we honor those rights where they apply.
10Deleting your account
You can request deletion of your Finesse account and associated data at any time from within the app or by emailing support@finessefinance.us. Deleting your account removes your linked bank connections and the financial data we store, subject to the limited retention exceptions described in Section 8. You can also revoke Plaid's access independently at my.plaid.com.
11Security
We take the protection of your financial data seriously. We use industry-standard safeguards, including encryption of data in transit and at rest, scoped access controls, and a bank-connection architecture (Plaid) that keeps your bank credentials out of our systems entirely. The app also supports on-device biometric locking (Face ID / Touch ID). No method of transmission or storage is ever 100% secure, however, and we cannot guarantee absolute security. If we become aware of a breach affecting your personal information, we will notify you as required by applicable law.
12Children's privacy
Finesse is not directed to children. The Service is intended only for users who are at least 18 years old, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 18. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us and we will delete it.
13Where your data is stored
Finesse is operated from the United States, and your information is processed and stored on servers located in the United States. If you access the Service from outside the United States, you understand that your information will be transferred to, stored, and processed in the United States, where data-protection laws may differ from those in your country.
14Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we make material changes, we will update the "Last updated" date above and, where appropriate, notify you in the app or by email. Your continued use of the Service after an update means you accept the revised policy.
